New Chapter for Felix? Chelsea Star Linked with Flamengo and Benfica Switch
João Felix is under the radar of the Brazilian League side Flamengo. Flamengo launches a shocking move for the Chelsea outcast for a loan deal
What Happened?
Reports reaching us at Sport Pyramid show that Flamengo is looking to sign João Félix on a loan deal as the club is looking to resurrect the career of the struggling Portugal international. As it stands currently, João Félix is still under contract with Chelsea. However, the Portugal man has experienced a lack of playing time under the leadership of Maresca. Felix has endured a torrid run of form and playing time across his recent loan stints, including his most recent spell in Serie A.
The Bigger Picture
João Félix was a promising player who has experienced massive growth in his career since his days at Atlético Madrid. This drew the attention of Chelsea, and he joined the Blues on a 7-year contract in 2024. However, Felix didn't get the chance to prove himself and what he can do for the club. Chelsea had to loan him out to AC Milan after he had just played half a season for the English club. Despite being loaned to AC Milan, Felix still struggled to find his place in the team. He only played 5 games for the club, providing only 1 assist.
With the new plans Chelsea is having this coming season, Felix is out of the equation, as Maresca is not interested in playing him. The concern right now, Felix is showing no interest in playing in the Brazilian league. He preferred to go back to Benfica, his childhood club, and the team where he first broke through with a stellar 2018–19 season.
Currently, as it stands and how things are going, if Felix is to consider moving to Flamengo, the club will likely want to include the option to appeal to Chelsea’s long-term planning. However, Benfica could offer a more emotionally compelling and competitive European destination. Felix can get a chance to keep appearing on the big stage because Benfica has been playing Champions League, and this can help him attract another much better option in the future.
Did You Know?
João Félix has struggled throughout his career to secure a place in the first team of all the clubs he has joined since making his breakthrough from Benfica.
João Felix played a total of 44 matches for Barcelona in the 2023–24 season, but even then struggled for consistency and impact in front of goal.
His lone assist for Milan in 2024 came in a 2-0 win over Lecce, but he has not scored since moving to Italy.
What's Next?
Chelsea is looking for a suitable way to resolve Felix's future at the moment, and on the other hand, AC Milan is more worried about the matches ahead. This means that Felix will have no option but to focus on the way out for his future.
Conclusion
